What Is Skateboarding? posted by Skateboarding Fan
In skateboarding, the person rides a skateboard and performs different types of tricks and difficult maneuvers. It is mainly a recreational activity, but many consider it an action sport. For many people it is also a mode of transportation; however, in certain areas it is illegal to ride a skateboard. The first skateboard can be traced back to the early 1940s, when people used to attach wheels of roller skates to wooden boards or boxes, and ride them. However, skateboarding as it is now probably came about when certain surfers in California were looking for some activity when there were no waves. This activity became very popular and soon it developed into a separate sport with its own unique maneuvers and tricks.
Skateboarding changed dramatically with the evolution of ramp skating and building of skate parks. Earlier, tricks mainly comprised of two-wheel riding, pivoting on back wheels, and jumping over an obstacle and landing on the skateboard. Movies and TV series have also played a big role in popularizing skateboarding culture.
